It is six o’clock on a winter morning. You are huddled up in blankets waiting on top of an open Gypsy for the Kisli gate to open. The early morning mist hangs low and at times you can spot deer antlers jutting out of the mist, the effect is magical. Kanha National Park is one the jewels among the National Parks of India. It is located in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and is one of India’s largest and best protected wildlife refuges. These jungles were an inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s immortal “Jungle Book” stories. The vast open meadows, the dense Sal (Shorea Robusta, a semi hardwood tree) and bamboo forests, the plateaus and the waterholes provide the ideal setting for an exciting wildlife experience.
We’ll be out on all seven days in Madhya Pradesh shuttling between two famous National Parks, Kanha and Bandhavgarh, both known for incredible tiger sightings. We’re sure to spot mammals, birds and reptiles during the trip.
